The event has been a part the PGA Tour since first debuting in 1946 when Ben Hogan won the first two editions and five in total, and it is now one of only five invitational tournaments on the tour.
The Charles Schwab Challenge, which has carried the name since 2019, is played at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The tournament has previously been known as the Colonial National Invitational, Southwestern Bell Colonial, MasterCard Colonial, Bank of America Colonial, Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Dean & DeLuca Invitational and Fort Worth Invitational.
Davis Riley is the defending champion having become the most recent winner of the event in 2024. He is backed among the leading contenders for the 2025 Charles Schwab.
Former winners of the event include Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw, Jack Nicklaus, Nick Price, Tom Watson, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Sam Burns and Emiliano Grillo.

Charles Schwab Challenge will be played over four rounds / 72 holes at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, with a cut after the opening two rounds.
- Day 1 – Thursday, May 22

- Day 4 – Sunday, May 25
The Charles Schwab tournament carries a total prize fund of $9,500,000, a $400,000 increase from the purse in 2024.
