The American Express is the first PGA Tour event of 2025 to take place on mainland United States and is part of the “West Coast Swing”.
It takes place across three courses at La Quinta Country Club, the PGA West Stadium Course and the PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course.
Rounds are played at each of the three courses before those making the cut play the final round at La Quinta Country Club in California.
The event dates back to 1960 when known as the Palm Springs Classic. It has subsequently been known as the CareerBuilder Challenge, Bob Hope Desert Classic, Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and the Humana Challenge.
Nick Dunlap is the reigning champion having won the title in 2024 when still an amateur.
Other former winners include Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Corey Pavin, Jay Haas, Tom Kite, Fred Couples, David Duval, Phil Mickelson, Mike Weir, Patrick Reed, Si Woo Kim, Hudson Swafford and Jon Rahm.

The American Express Golf Format & Schedule
The American Express will be played over four rounds / 72 holes across three different courses.
Players rotate around La Quinta Country Club, PGA West Stadium Course and PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course for the first three days.
La Quinta then hosts the post-cut final round.

- Day 3 – Saturday, January 18
- Day 4 – Sunday, January 19
The American Express tournament carries a prize fund of $8,800,000 USD.
