Callaway AI Smoke Woods Review

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke woods are a new 2024 with four models featuring multiple sweet spots across a new face.

The same four models that appear in the drivers range – the AI Smoke Max, Max D, Max Fast and Triple Diamond – have also been launched as new fairways for the year ahead.

An extension of the existing Paradym woods series, the latest fairway woods feature a new AI face design process called AI Smart Face, which replaces Jailbreak Technology and features multiple sweet spots on the face.

How do the new Callaway AI Smoke woods perform, are they more forgiving and longer and how do they rate in the best new woods sector? We tested them and dived into the numbers.

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max Woods Specs & Design

The AI Smoke Max replaces the Paradym Max as the standard model of the new range of fairways with distance and adjustability what this model is all about.

Callaway have introduced the AI design known as Smart Face to replace Jailbreak Technology, with the new feature providing multiple sweet spots across the face to provide maximum forgiveness and ball speed.

The Carbon Chassis with the crown has been given a serious makeover with 24 grams of weight moved into the clubhead – 12g low-forward for better launch and spin and 12g towards the rear for added forgiveness.

That has allowed for the introduction of a tungsten speed cartridge behind the face to position the CG low and forward for more distance and a better ball flight.

The Max model has a relatively standard shape, a shallow shape and is designed for players who have a neutral ball flight and want a higher ball flight.

The Max is available in 3-wood (15 degrees), 3HL-wood (16.5 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees), 7-wood (21 degrees), heavenwood (20 degrees), 9-wood (24 degrees) and 11-wood (27 degrees).

The 3-wood and 3HL-wood have an adjustable hosel with up to four degrees of adjustability (two degrees up and down).

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max D Woods Specs & Design

The Max D model is the draw bias version of this series and is designed a cure to natural fade or slice ball shapes.

It is more forgiving than the Max having been designed with a stretched back clubhead shape and produces the highest launch angle of any of the four models.

The Max D has a shallow face with a neutral position at address, a more upright lie angle than the Max and has high MOI with weight back in the model.

This fairway generates moderate spin levels off the new AI Smart Face, which provides more forgiveness and accuracy thanks to multiple sweet spots.

The Max D is available in 3-wood (15 degrees), 3HL-wood (16.5 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees) and 7-wood (21 degrees).

The 3-wood and 3HL-wood have an adjustable hosel with up to four degrees of adjustability (two degrees up and down).

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max Fast Woods Specs & Design

A new addition into the 2024 series, the Max Fast is a lightweight option designed to help golfers with slower swings generate maximum speed through the air.

It is a similar concept to the Titleist TSR1 fairway woods, Callaway have removed as much weight as possible and used a light 40g shaft to help make this AI Smoke fast through the air.

The clubhead shape is very similar to the Max D with an elongated or stretched crown and weight moved to the perimeter for a high launch, moderate spin levels and a slight draw bias flight.

It has no adjustability with a fixed hosel and weight, with this another reason Callaway have managed to keep the weight down in this model.

The AI Smart Face is present to add multiple sweet spots of this shallow face design in order to maintain those ball speeds for golfers who really need that bit of assistance.

The Max Fast is sold in four loft options of 3-wood (16 degrees), 5-wood (19 degrees), 7-wood (22 degrees) and 9-wood (25 degrees).

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Triple Diamond Woods Specs & Design

The Triple Diamond model is the most tour-like design with a compact clubhead, a deep face profile and a penetrating ball flight for maximum distance.

Suited to golfers with faster swing speeds, it is the lowest launching of the quartet of fairways, produces low-spin and is long whether used from the tee box, fairway or rough.

The new AI Smart Face with multiple sweet spots has helped Callaway extract even more distance gains compared to the Paradym Triple Diamond.

That, couple with a forward weight screw behind the face, helps produce the low trajectory and penetrating ball flight.

This model is the only one to have grooves spanning across the width of the face for a stylish look at address.

This version of the AI Smoke is available in 3-wood (15 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees) and 7-wood (21 degrees). The 3-wood has an adjustable hosel for up to four degrees of adjustability (two degrees up and down).

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Fairway Woods Review: Are they any good?

Callaway have found some excellent performance gains in the new AI Smoke fairways with the face technology the key for golfers craving consistency.

With multiple sweet spots, we found that the woods maintain speed and distance wherever the strike was on the face – and what is there not to like about that.

With four options to cater for the needs of a wide variety of golfers, this is the most complete series from Callaway and we are seriously impressed.

The introduction of a lightweight version in the Max Fast is a great move, opening this new addition up to golfers who wouldn’t previously have considered it.

What Callaway says about the new AI Smoke fairway woods range:

“Ai Smoke Fairway Woods utilize Ai Smart Face, a breakthrough technology in face design that utilizes thousands of actual player swings.

“Every Ai Smart Face is designed to optimize launch and spin, creating sweet spots across the face.

The Carbon Chassis has been refined to promote enhanced weight redistribution. 24g of total weight has been repositioned throughout the head. 12g is placed low-forward to enhance launch and spin, and 12g rearward for increased forgiveness.

By incorporating a tungsten speed cartridge, we can push the center of gravity (CG) low and forward. The result is optimal launch and spin to promote maximum distance.”
