Gumberg had never won on an elite tour but the 28-year-old American defeated Robin Williams in a play-off to win the 2023 SDC Championship.

The American finished on 12-under par before a birdie on the second extra hole at St Francis Links in South Africa earned him his maiden title.

Before the victory in South Africa, Gumberg was ranked 669th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Gumberg has missed three cuts and finished T54th in his other tournament in four previous starts on the DP World Tour this season.

The American came through the collegiate system at the University of Arizona before turning professional.
