Titleist AVX Golf Balls Review

The new low-flying AXV is softer than the Pro V1 but with no sacrifice on distance

Titleist AVX golf balls are set to become the premium ball of choice for golfers worldwide in 2019.

The Titleist Pro V1 might have been the dominant ball in golf for as long as anyone can remember, but there is a new rival in town in the shape of the AVX, a sister range which combines a softer feel yet added distance.

The AVX ball adds to the armoury of Titleist, the number one manufacturer of golf balls and the winningmost on both the PGA Tour and European Tour

Titleist AVX Golf Balls

The AVX golf ball has not been created to replace the Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1X, but to sit alongside both options and offer an alternative for golfers to choose from.

Titleist have created the ABX to be an all-round golf ball and to attractive players who not only want impressive distances, but also forgiveness and a softer feel around the greens. And they have certainly achieved that.

The AVX is a softer golf ball than the Pro V1, but there is no sacrifice on distance courtesy of it also being Titleist’s lowest spinning ball and the lowest flying option that they have produced with a penetrating flight.

The AVX has a layered construction with a low compression core and a high flex casing, and it is that combination that helps provide the soft feel with distance. The GRN41 cast thermoset urethane cover and 352 tetrahedral catenary dimple design aids the aerodynamics and ensures durability too.

“Golfers have spoken loud and clear about the performance of AVX,” said Michael Mahoney, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball Marketing. “While our R&D team is constantly exploring new golf ball technologies, only a limited number of prototypes ever make it past the initial machine and player testing phases.

“AVX stood out from the beginning. Ultimately, it was important to let golfers decide whether this golf ball had a place in our line and the results of our test market were emphatic. Many golfers were waiting for a product like AVX – our lowest flying, lowest spinning and softest feeling high performance golf ball – to help them play their best.”

Titleist AVX Golf Balls Verdict

Lovers of Titleist golf balls and players of high performing premium balls now have a serious dilemma.

For some time, the Pro V1 was the go-to ball for the very best players but the softer feel of the AVX and the fact there is no sacrifice in distance and an improvement in forgiveness means there is a serious rival.

The AVX is an impressive performer and, although they don’t come cheap, they look set for an incredibly bright future.
