Titleist AVX Golf Ball

Titleist AVX golf balls have had an upgrade for 2022 with the latest generation of the ball released. How have Titleist improved the already impressive ball?

The Titleist Pro V1 has been the dominant ball in golf for as long as anyone can remember, but Titleist decided to add another option to their armoury in 2019 to rival the biggest name in the sport.

The AVX combined lower spin, a softer feel than the ProV1 and ProV1x and added distance. The improved 2022 model takes things even further will a new aerodynamic design and more yards added.

What Titleist say about the 2022 AVX golf ball:

“Flight, spin, and feel are three key performance attributes we evaluate during our green-to-tee fittings and golf ball selection. AVX provides a low flight, low spin, exceptionally soft feel alternative to Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

“With new AVX, we focused on what AVX golfers are asking for: improving upon the already incredible distance and feel that golfers love, while enhancing greenside spin.

“We achieved this by softening the urethane cover to achieve greater short game performance, while adding a new core formulation for speed, and new aerodynamics for flight stability and more distance.”

Titleist AVX Golf Balls Design & Feature

Titleist created the AVX as an all-round golf ball for impressive distances, but also forgiveness and a softer feel around the greens. And they certainly achieved that.

They have taken the original AVX and made some tweaks and changes to extract even more performance from the 2022 ball.

A new propriety core features a lower compression overall, with the centre still soft with the stiffness increase in the outer portion. It also has a high flex casing to generate impressive balls speeds and distance.

The urethane cover is now softer than in the previous model to help produce increased spin and control around the green, but less off the face of the driver.

The aerodynamics of the AVX ball have also been improved by a new 348 dimple pattern, featuring seven different sized dimples. That is four dimples less than the original Titleist AVX.

The new pattern creates a lower trajectory for the most piercing ball flight and has added even more distance to the AVX.

The Titleist AVX balls are available in white and yellow.

Verdict: Are Titleist AVX Golf Balls any good?

For some time, the ProV1 was the go-to ball for the very best players but the softer feel of the AVX, and the fact there is no sacrifice in distance or forgiveness, made the new ball a serious rival.

In three years on the market, the AVX has become an impressive performer in terms of distance and spin delivered – albeit at a significant price per dozen.

The 2022 AVX model is an improvement on the original ball with the tweaks eeking out even more distance and offering even more spin around the greens. They remain a top class ball.
